Second year graduate student
Department Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Baylor College of Medicine
Houston, Texas
Q. Why do you want to be a graduate student in Biomedical Science?
A. I love the natural world, especially biology. It captivates me with endless complexity and mystery. I would not be satisfied with a basic understanding of how living things work and I like to solve problems.
Q. Why did you choose Baylor College of Medicine for your graduate program?
A. I had pursued and earned a Masters degree in Entomology at OSU. However, research funding in Biomedical Sciences is much better than in Entomology. I have chosen BCM for my graduate program because it is a well- funded research institute.
Q. What is the cost of attending a graduate program at BCM?
A. Not only is the cost of attending covered, a generous stipend is also granted to all graduate students at BCM.
Q. How does one prepare for a graduate school in Biomedical Sciences?
A. You have to be curious in nature, have good grades and a love for learning. It’s good to major in the Molecular Life Sciences area (Biochemistry, Genetics, Cell Biology, etc…) in college. It is also crucial to have laboratory experience outside of the classroom. All entering graduate students at BCM have this, unless they have an alternative background like Computer Science, Physics, etc… Of course letters of recommendation are also very important.
